Behind The Scenes

Ann Handley suggests in her book Content Rules to use video to show behind the scenes at your company. “Businesses can show what goes on in their day-to-day world that people don’t see but might be interested in. What about showing, for example, how a popular product goes from concept to rolling off the assembly line? Something that seems completely everyday to you could be exciting and fresh to your fans.”

Video used in this way is a powerful tool in involving your customers, followers and fans.  Openness in a business relationship fosters trust and involvement, as does knowledge of your product.  Whether your end product is something tangible or a service, showing customers rather than telling them makes it more understandable to them. Instantly they are more involved and may ask more questions. It’s a great way of initiating communication.

“What does your company do?”

“We work on broadcasting masts.”

“Oh.”

Compared to

“What does your company do”

“OH!”

This is an extreme example, but it gets the point across. And it’s engaging.  What part of your business process would benefit from you showing the process on your website?
